total randomness

March Hare
So here I am, listening to a soft rain, and scrolling through a really long list of angry love songs I found on TotalFark while Cecelia by Simon and Garfunkel (yes it's on the list) runs through my head.

There is something deeply ironic about that, especially since I think that rain is the most peaceful sound there is.

At least I don't have Alanis Morrisette running through my head. You Outta Know has been mentioned several times.

By the way. I succumbed. I couldn't resist getting a permanent account. I have heard all of the arguments, and decided to get one anyway. Two days and I still have more icon space. I should drop the angry song list and get to work.

One day, Cat, Mom, [info]trio_plus_one and I were driving in Northern Virginia, very near Potomac Mills. We passed by a what looked like a very neo-conservative, born again, Bible thumping kind of church with a billboard in front of it. All four of us started howling with laughter in the same moment.

The billboard said "If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you."

I will forever more be disappointed by church billboards.

I found out today that there is an instrumental version of Gangster's Paradise. I am not sure if this is a worse sign for M's taste in music, or for music in general.

Any blank spot on a sign in the store invites a conversation in print. The current argument goes as follows:

UNC
Georgetown
UNC
GEORGETOWN
UNC
GEORGETOWN
Go Speed Racer Go!!

Right now, I am kind of the pagan in residence at the store. The store nun (I'm not kidding) and I were discussing the teen section today, and were very much in agreement at how bad some of the books are these days. She laughed at my self-description as a fuddy-duddy and then we started talking about Oprah and how she could choose better books. Somehow, when I was in college, I never pictured myself having such a conversation.

My car really can get home and then back to work with the fuel light on.

Never, ever tell the store NRA member that you support any kind of gun control unless he is more tired than you are.

At least one server in the cafe learned the NRA rule tonight.

Humans think things are under control, fates laugh. There is now a cafe server with my sister's adult nickname, and a department manager (AKA NS) with a different spelling of my sister's childhood nickname. For purely selfish reasons, I am hoping at least one of them will quit. Soon.

Alice Cooper rocks for judging "Inmate Idle" in a prison today. Thank you for remembering that prisoners are people too, and deserve a positive way to spend the time and focus on. You helped to make a lot of people a lot happier by doing that. Prison isn't fun, but you helped make it survivable.

Having Gangster's Paradise running through your head is not conducive to remember that one other thing you wanted to blog about. Maybe I'll remember later.

CNN is now running a story about some strange lights that were spotted in the skies over Arizona several years ago.

The anchor said that they "may have been UFOs" and that "we don't know what they were".

Um, UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object.

Are these things unidentified? Were they flying? Were they objects? Yes? Then, by definition, UFOs. Simple as that.

No, I'm not trying to go X-Files on you guys. I'm just annoyed by the insistence on not calling something a UFO unless it is demonstrated to be an alien ship, which makes no freaking sense to me. Yeah, I can be bitchy about grammar.

Besides, if we know it's an alien ship, then it's identified, right? IFO?

edit: Now they're talking about cloud seeding. "This is sodium chloride, basically salt." No, it's exactly salt. *sigh* It may be time to find something else to watch.

Scout is wet. I don't know how or why, but she is covered in water droplets. This is the same cat who left me with a permanent scar on my wrist when I gave her a bath.

Customer service would be a lot easier if people would just listen when they are upset. Talking over the person who is telling you the answer you want to hear or explaining how to get that answer just frustrates. This is more from reading [info]customers_suck tonight than from my day, which was remarkably calm.

I should get back to writing my book. I love blogging, but Conroje has been calling me again. I think I understand what I was doing wrong before. I need to trust Ashley more. This means nothing to you. Move along.

There are so many things I want to do. If only there were more hours in a day, more days in a week.

I am really glad that Britain's Big Brother is not playing in this country. We have more than enough racial battles in this country. Why the hell have we not progressed beyond this nonsense by now? We are all human. We can live together.

I have to be back at work in just over seven hours. I should really be asleep by now. What else is new?
